Provides information about child care options, how to evaluate care, referrals to programs that may meet individual needs, other parent education materials and other financial options. Offers small business start-up assistance, training and technical assistance, mini grants, reimbursement for food costs and home and center visitations to child care providers. Also provides demographic information, child care supply and demand, policy planning and development. Parents in Steuben County may take advantage of a subsidy program to help with the cost of child care.

Home Delivered Meal Program | Steuben County Office for the Aging (SCOFA) (Admin Site)

Provides hot meals, frozen and bulk meals with an in-home assessment to individuals who are unable to shop for own meals or unable to prepare own meals. Provides nutrition education and counseling by a registered dietitian to individuals receiving home-delivered meals through this program. Program is offered in partnership with Pro Action of Steuben and Yates.

Children and Family Services Division (FS) | Chemung County DSS

Provides training to individuals interested in applying for certification as foster and adoptive parents to prepare to either adopt or foster children that are in the custody of the Commissioner. Places and monitors children that have been placed outside the birth family in licensed foster care homes. Responsible for strengthening and preserving families and ensuring the protection and permanency for children. Placement of children into foster homes occurs in situations of neglect and/or abuse or if the child has been adjucated as a Juvenile Delinquent (JD). Placement only occurs when no other alternatives are possible. The Children and Family Services (FS) collaborates with all DSS divisions, community and state agencies to ensure that children are safe and that families are independent.

Single Point of Access (SPOA) | Steuben County Community Mental Health Center

Provides a centralized intake process for adults and children who have significant behavioral health needs that would benefit from additional supports and services in the community. This includes people with significant behavioral and medical or social risk factors which can be addressed through overall care management. There are three types of SPOAs - Children's, Adult Case/Care Management and Adult Housing. The SPOA process provides for the identification of people most in need of services, and manages service access and utilization.

Section 8 Rental Assistance | City of Hornell Housing Authority

Provides assistance in the form of vouchers that enable income-eligible families to find and lease approved privately owned housing. Emergency and temporary housing is not available, but priority can be given to a homeless person or family.
