Long-Term Ombudsman Program | AIM Independent Living Center

Advocates for residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult care homes. Ombudsmen visit long-term care facilities, build relationships with residents, and give them a voice. Ombudsmen help people understand their rights; address issues that could impact health, safety and quality of life; and investigate complaints.

Smart Energy Choices | Cornell Cooperative Extension - Schuyler County

Works with income-eligible households (homeowners, renters, and landlords) to improve the energy efficiency of the home (single family units, manufactured housing, and 1-4 building rental units). Considers weatherization efforts including insulation and air sealing; home heating sources, hot water tanks, carbon monoxide or smoke detectors, solar options and more, to ensure the health and safety of homes. Grants offered through New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for income-eligible households, referrals and assessment also available.

Housing Supports | The Arc - Chemung County

Housing Supports are designed to help people live as independently as possible in a community setting through person-centered supports and services. Residences range in size and with varying levels of support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages. Homes and apartments are located throughout Chemung and Schuyler counties. All residential options are designed to be family-like in all-male, all-female, or co-ed settings. Direct Support Professionals are on-site 24-hours-a-day to assist with cooking, housekeeping, and daily life skills. The supportive apartment program supplements the needs of people who are living on their own, but who may need periodic financial and staff supports to retain their independent living. Also offers a respite program to families who are responsible for the daily care of a loved one with a developmental disability and need relief.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) | Schuyler County Department of Social Services

Provides HEAP grants that are used to supplement annual energy costs. Funds can only be sent to primary heating supplier and can be used to pay for electricity, propane, natural gas, wood, oil, kerosene, coal and any other heating fuel. Emergency HEAP grants may also be available to eligible households with a shut-off notice or for those running out of fuel such as propane, wood, oil, kerosene or coal. Also provides assistance with replacement or repair of primary heating source.
