Benefits advisement services can assist an individual with managing existing benefits, seek others, and understand the impact earned income will have on cash benefits and entitlement programs such as: Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Medicaid, and Medicare, Medicaid-Buy-In, Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE), private insurance coverage, food stamps, PASS plans, public assistance benefits (i.e., Family Assistance or Safety Net benefits), student loans, and financial aid (e.g., TAP and PELL grants). Benefits advisors can provide individuals with disabilities accurate information to make an informed choice about work and financial independence.

Accepts residential, commercial, industrial and construction and demolition waste. Also accepts many recyclable materials, most at no charge. Does not provide hauling services nor process some types of materials. Drop Off Stations/Transfer Stations are available as an alternative to curbside pickup. Provides linkages for individuals with brain injuries received prior to age 22 and their families with community-based services and supports including understanding and navigating the current system of available services, accessing Medicaid Waiver Programs if qualified, training family members, service providers, and educators to understand the impact of brain injury and brain injury prevention, and making connections to community support groups about living with a brain injury or caring for an individual with a brain injury. Assistance is also provided to understanding the local school system’s special education process. This program is funded by the Office of Mental Retardation and Development Disabilities (OMRDD).

Chemung County School Readiness Project is an initiative to ensure that children arrive at school socially, cognitively, physically and emotionally ready to learn. CIDS provides face to face services to the families of infants and preschoolers, provides child development screening until child enters school, makes in person or virtual visits to support the health and welfare of child and families. Provides both skill-building parent education curricula.

Provides education and awareness to separating or divorcing parents if there are issues regarding child custody. Topics covered include the impact of separation/divorce on children, cooperative and parallel approaches to co-parenting, legal issues related to custody and/or access, alternatives to litigation, methods of communication and problem-solving.

Offers assistance to custodial parents in obtaining court ordered child and health support for their dependent children as well as establishing paternity. Individuals who pay and/or receive child support payments that are collected through a child support unit can call and request to have their local Child Support Representative contact them.

Aids in facilitating HEAP grant applications. HEAP grants are used to supplement annual energy costs. Funds can be used to pay for electricity, propane, natural gas, oil, kerosene, coal and any other heating fuel. Emergency HEAP grants may also be available to eligible households with a shut-off notice or for those running out of fuel such as propane, wood, oil, kerosene or coal.
