Legal and Mediation Services at Steuben County Court System
Oversees cases brought before a judge by the district attorney. The County Court hears cases involving crimes or violations of law committed within the county including cases involving drug treatment. Family Court hears cases involving children and families, juvenile delinquency, child protection, adoptions, support, paternity, foster care placement. The Surrogate Court hears cases involved with inheritance, such as probate of wills and administration of estates. The Supreme Court hears cases involved with negligence, divorces, and contract and breach of warranty.<br />

Steuben County Court System
County Courts are established in each county outside New York City. They are authorized to handle the prosecution of crimes committed within the county. The County Court also has limited jurisdiction in civil cases involving amounts up to $25,000. The County Court judge may also function as the Family Court judge or Surrogate or both.
